T.I.S. Group
History

1962
Jack D. Tichenor founded Tichenor's Institutional Service, Inc. (now known as T.I.S., Inc.) at 3900 East Third Street in Bloomington, Indiana. His goal was to sell used textbooks to college bookstores around the country.

Later in the year, Raymond H. Tichenor joined the company, and the brothers worked to develop a wholesale/retail college textbook business to keep pace with the rapid growth of the 1960s.

1968-1969
Economic recession forced the company to close its retail outlets and consolidate its wholesale operations into one location at 1928 Arlington Road, Bloomington, Indiana. From this location, the company operated a retail outlet for Indiana University students and continued to sell used textbooks wholesale to other bookstores around the country.

1975
T.I.S. reopened a college bookstore at 1302 East Third Street in Bloomington.

1977
The company started a small publishing group.

1980
After 18 years as founder and president, Jack Tichenor died; Raymond Tichenor became president of the corporation.

1986
A new retail college bookstore opened at 1717 University Avenue, Muncie, Indiana.

1991
Another retail college bookstore opened at 707 South Sixth Street, Champaign, Illinois.

1993
A new 40,000-square-foot building was completed at 5005 North State Road 37 Business in Bloomington. This facility now houses the corporate offices and the wholesale and publishing operations.

1994
T.I.S. expanded its limited screen printing operation into a new business unit, Taylor Imprinted Sportswear, located in 5,500 square feet of the company's old Arlington Road location. Today, Taylor produces a line of soft goods for T.I.S. retail stores and for distribution to other retailers throughout the Midwest.

Today
T.I.S., Inc. continues to look for suitable locations near other college campuses for future expansion.
